Margo Selby

Margo Selby is a British artist and designer working in woven textiles. Her work is characterised by its geometric construction in colour and sits at the intersection of art, craft, and design, developed from her studio in nearby Whitstable.

Weaving is a slow, methodical practice, repeatedly sending a shuttle through a warp thread by thread. Each piece takes many hours, sometimes days, to build. Margo values this enforced slowness and the concentration on detail it demands.

Her handwoven artworks often use a technique called Lampas weave, which creates a distinctive 3D effect by layering pure colour across the fabric. The structure dates back to Huguenot weavers, many of whom settled in nearby Canterbury and helped shape England's textile trade in the 17th century. Margo brings this centuries-old technique together with a modern, geometric design sensibility.

Alongside her handwoven art practice, Margo leads Margo Selby Studio, designing for industry partners and producing a wide range of textile applications.

She has collaborated with Osbourne and Little, Habitat, West Elm amongst others and her artwork has recently been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery. In 2025, her large-scale installation moon landing was shown at Canterbury Cathedral to great acclaim.
